Codenames Frenzy!  - Continued

Bracket Rounds

After having traversed memory lane to remember the fifteen matches played during the Round Robin and some of the most memorable moments that occurred during them, it is time for us to move over to the main event: The Bracket Round! This round consisted of two smaller brackets, the Winner's Bracket (where those with no losses originated from) and the Loser's Bracket (where the teams would be moved to after one loss). With this round being one of double elimination, it would take two losses for one team to be permanently eliminated from the Tournament.

But enough with the technicalities! Once more, we will start this section by directing our attention toward the matches before reviewing the rankings and commemorating some more instances of sheer hilarity that are worthy of the Codenames Hall of Fame. 😄  As I already mentioned, a total of eleven matches made up the Bracket Round (the Grand Finale included) and during this emotional roller coaster of a bracket, we saw it all: Teams being eliminated, neutrals reaching their limits, clues that existed beyond the realm of logic and jokes that will remain engraved in our memory long after this Tournament is over. Do you want to hear more? Then let's jump right in!

With the highest ranking teams of the Round Robin, Jespelodel and Reilowtl, getting a day off at the beginning of the Bracket Round, the first match occurred between Omoomow and Madstar Walles. With Jess taking up the neutral mantle, this match proved to be full of Hufflepuff love and sharing, with the teams selecting each other's words more than once. 😄 In the end, the strong intuition displayed by Madstar Walles allowed them to emerge victorious and push Omoomow over to the Loser's Bracket.

The second match followed suit shortly after, with Chel appearing to hold the neutral position while melennia and AshftAlyssa27 fought it out for a chance to remain within the Winner's Bracket. Amidst the chaos spread by the increasingly sleepy spectators and the incessant clicking of the assassin words, both teams managed to win one round each before the final round came along to judge the winner. In the end, it was melennia that emerged victorious with two rounds won, sending AshftAlyssa27 to fight over to the Loser's Bracket.

The third match saw Jespelodel finally joining the fray to fight against Madstar Walles under the watchful eye of their neutral, Nooms. The spirits were running high from the very beginning, especially due to the rather early morning the North Americans had to suffer through (not Jess, just the others 😄) but both teams still came up with ingenious clues that had everyone cheering. In the end, however, Madstar Walles managed to maintain their winning streak with two rounds won while Jespelodel joined the Loser's Bracket.

The next match featured Reilowtl coming out of their retirement to continue their Codenames career by fighting against melennia with Jess as their neutral. Despite their temporary absence, Reilowtl entered the arena quite confidently but even though unforeseen circumstances forced melennia to play with one player less, they still proved to be tough competition. In the end, however, Reilowtl combined their Ravenclaw creativity and Slytherin inventiveness to claim victory and send melennia down to the Loser's Bracket.

New day, new matches, two of them side by side this time! The first featured two teams with nothing to lose, Jespelodel and AshftAlyssa27, and one naturally snarky neutral, yours truly!  The entire match was riddled with cryptic but genius clues that kept the players and the spectators guessing while the spymasters did their best to outdo each other and help their teams win. In the end, AshftAlyssa27 managed to snatch the victory with two rounds won and despite Jespelodel's impressive comeback towards the end, they were eliminated.

The second match for the day featured a brand new neutral coming around for the first time, Smart! The two teams he would be presiding over were Omoomow and melennia but then, out of nowhere, something unexpected happen! Just as the match was about to start, unfortunate circumstances forced melennia to miss their deadline, leading to them forfeiting the match and giving Omoomow a quick victory. Unfortunately, their second loss (even by forfeit) also meant that they were eliminated from the Tournament.

The peace was short because a couple of days later, a new match was set up between Reilowtl and Madstar Walles. With your beloved Isabella (aka me~) as the neutral and both teams hailing from the Winner's Bracket, it should have been an easygoing match... It was anything but. 😄 Both teams had previous victorious streaks to honour and fought hard to keep them but when the dust settled, it was Reilowtl that remained in the Winner's Bracket with three rounds won while Madstar Walles joined the Loser's Bracket.

The eighth match came along sooner than we'd have expected, with Omoomow and AshtftAlyssa27 rising to fight for a spot on the podium. With Rei as their neutral, the teams came up with some of their most outrageous but genius clues in their race against the timer and each other. But alas, this rather hilarious match came to a swift ending after Reilowtl won all three of the rounds and pushed AshftAlyssa27 out of the Tournament.

Finally, it was time for the Semi-Finals to commence! Coming from the Loser's Bracket and knowing they would have to give it their all to win, Madstar Walles and Omoomow clashed while who else but I would be the ever-vigilant neutral? With both teams missing one player, it seemed this match would be tough for both teams. Speed and effectiveness seemed to be the keywords for this match but when all was said and done, it was Omoomow that kept up their newfound winning streak after working hard to win all three of the rounds. With that, Madstar Walles was officially granted third place on the podium and everyone's eyes turned toward the most exciting moment of this entire Tournament: The Finals!
