If you've been paying attention to the site happenings, or if you've realized that we just reached the end of a year ending in 9, then you should be well aware that the Year 70 Gap Year is fast approaching! The Gap Year is an exciting time when members take a break from the usual events of the Hogwarts Castle and are transported to an entirely new place... be it another country, a tropical island, or the top of a mountain! myHogwarts members were invited to fill out a survey letting the Quibbler know all about their Gap Year speculations... I wonder if anyone's predictions will turn out correct?
First off, a Discord recap...
Excitement for the upcoming Gap Year was ignited on Thanksgiving Day, when our dear Headmistress C hinted at releasing spoilers...
Of course, we all wanted to know what secrets she had up her sleeve! Thankfully, there was a small nugget of information C bestowed upon us...
Team colors!!! It may have been #AllWe'reGetting but it was enough to set off a wave of excitement in the chat. Raspyriel, reflecting all our sentiments, wrote, "Ooooo I want pink! lol forget any of my answers not pointing to pink."
Although some of us were excited at the prospect of pink, others were not. Merlin was quick to speak up: "Those are... bright."
Our wise Slytherdor Head, Willow, was also quick to point out something odd about C's screenshot: "Is no one perturbed by the fact that we have One and Three but there's no Two?!" Indeed, C's small reveal suggests that there may be three teams! However, C let us know to hold back our excitement. She commented -- stricken out and with an emoji, in the typical C fashion -- "Or maybe there is no two and I was too lazy to change three to two." Both possibilities seem likely!
We were clearly in need of a survey...
With all of this information surfacing about the Gap Year, it was clear that I should conduct a survey in order to figure out where everyone's head is at. Are pink and orange our final colors? What chaos will unfold? I have to say, some of the answers I received were quite shocking...
Starting off with the first point of contention: the team colors. The members who answered the survey seemed convinced that pink and orange were going to be the official team colors this Gap Year. No tricks up C's sleeve, apparently!
Next up: the theme. Every Gap Year has a theme, and just as mHers were unified on the team colors, they also had similar answers regarding Year 70's theme. Multiple people seem to think that this Gap Year's theme will be a murder mystery in a mansion! One user specified, "Maybe we're visiting a wealthy old woman in her mansion," while another suggested that we may be visiting a haunted house. Maybe we'll be visiting a wealthy old woman (C??) in her haunted mansion!
The next question asked about who or what will cause the most chaos. One user was quick to respond, "Oh this is easy. It's always the Mugwumps that cause the most chaos." Well... I can't disagree with that! Another person suggested that it will be the pink team to cause the most chaos, while another suggested that we may see the appearance of a board game character, such as Mr. Monopoly or someone out of Clue. Perhaps the pink suggests an appearance from Umbridge!
Last but not least, I asked mHers to let me in on their wildest theories about what will occur. Our tamest response was that a secret third team will appear! Two people suggested a murder may happen, and another suggested an arrest. Oh my, perhaps Azkaban may be getting some new visitors after this year...
But most intriguing of all -- beyond even the threat of murder! -- is a prediction involving our very own Headmistress! An anonymous user let me in on their theory that a mix-up will happen and teams will end up lost (perhaps this is where the murder/arrest comes in??) and the chaos will cause C so much grief that she's going to retire!
Of course, I must reassure you that these are just rumors and that the Quibbler has not reached out to our lovely Headmistress for comment. However, I can't help but think of a similar occurrence over fifteen mH years ago, when the Admins went on vacation, and the site devolved into such chaos that Jess, our then-Headmistress, decided to resign! Dearest readers of the Quibbler, I think we will need to keep an eye on C during this Gap Year... and perhaps practice a few defensive spells ourselves in anticipation of the shenanigans that are sure to unfold.
