Real-Time Quidditch: The Real Deal
by White_Star
Summer is here! And that means dragons biting off fingers, sleeping in smelly cabins with way too many people... errr I mean spending time with members from all corners of the board who are now your cabinmates, exciting games of tug of war and bludger pong, and of course, Real Time Quidditch. Now for those of you unfamiliar with RTQ, and perhaps even some of you who are, it can be quite a daunting prospect. You are expected to answer trivia questions within a minute, keepers only get 10 seconds, and there are a whole bunch of new and different rules and where to even begin, right? Never fear, here is your RTQ Survival Guide.
1. Sign up! Did you sign up for RTQ yet? If not, why not? This is an important first step.
2. Read the rules. As mentioned earlier, RTQ has a lot of rules that are very different from regular quidditch. The best way to survive is to know the rules.
3. Prepare your RTQ device. It is recommended that you play RTQ on a computer of some kind, but your phone may have to do in a pinch. No matter what, make sure your device is charged! Nothing is worse than your phone dying in the middle of a match!

4. Prepare your body. Cold? Get a blanket. Hungry? Get a snack. If you are uncomfortable or need anything, you’ll want to do it before the match starts because once it does you will be very busy for the next 45 minutes.
5. Calm your mind. Take a deep breath and relax. The stress will come soon enough.
BUTTERBEER-FEST!
by beauty_inthebook
The summer is here and that means time to treat ourselves! Which is why I have hunted down a Butterbeer recipe so easy to make, magic wouldn’t make it faster, just don’t blame me if you get addicted, this buttery treat is hard to resit!
Ingredients

-
1 litre of traditional Creaming soda (the brown kind not the evil incarnate)
-
1 can of whipping cream
-
A butterscotch ice cream topping of your choice (if you can only find salted caramel it will still taste great!)
-
Brown Sugar

(click the left and right side of the recipe to move between slides)
Please note:
This recipe is very much to taste! Personally, I like a lot of butterscotch ice cream topping in the cream and only a pinch in the creaming soda but it’s up to you if you want to tweak it.
Once you have made your recipe, rev up for a great start to a new year!
Wishing magic cooking to you all!
Quibbler Quest: Dragon Whisperer
by: beauty_inthebook
After my editor kindly allowed me to take my first quest, I thought about where I could venture on this lovely summer break. Naturally, my first thought came to the adorable young dragons we have the pleasure of caring for. I have been reading some books by a magizoologist I found in my Aunt's attic and the magizoologist said he'd found a way to talk to dragons. Of course I have the perfect opportunity to test this out! Armed with the book on dragon ‘tongue’ I ventured down to the playpens at night. Yes, I hear you thinking. (What an insane idea! Kirrily, what on earth possessed you to do this at night?!) Well, yes, all great points, but you see I was so excited I decided asking permission would simply slow me down, so, night it was! Anywho, when I made it down there I saw most of the dragons having a snooze, though one dragon, Ashardalon, seemed to be chasing its own tail around the pen! This would be the dragon I would communicate with!

I opened the book and started to try and emulate the sounds written, this involved a series of low pinched, gravely grunts and growls. At first the dragon simply looked at me confused, so I tried a higher pitched series of sounds. This time the dragon seemed to look straight into my eyes! Could it be! Am I a dragon whisperer?! The dragon seemed to be pawing at the cage lock, clearly he wanted to come out to speak to me! I grabbed my wand and freed the dragon from the cage, as soon as it was free it bowled me over as it ran out of the cage and passed me.

It was at this moment I realised the dragon was not communicating with me and simply wanted a late night escape! I quickly got to my feet and rushed after the
dragon, running through the campsite and towards the forest oh no, no no no no, not the forest! I was way out of breath as I raced to catch up with the dragon. As it broke through the first trees of the forest, I threw my body through the trees, earning myself a set of cuts across my face and arms.
Once I was in the forest I took a pause and collapsed in half, leaning my hands onto my knees as I tried to catch my breath. I could no longer hear the racing steps of the dragon, where did he go? I looked around and luckily I spotted a mess of footprints, following them I came to an area where a bunch of rabbits were feeding on the grass. I didn’t know there were rabbits in the forest. Then I noticed Ashardalon, hiding under some shrubbery, and I realised with dread, he was going to eat the rabbits!!! I started to jump up and down, yelling to try and scare all the rabbits away. Luckily my blundering around worked, and the rabbits raced to get away from the crazy witch shaking her hands about.

Wait! The rabbits gave me an idea! My Patronus is a mink! I could use it to lead him back to the cage! I pulled out my wand and cast Expecto Patronum, a smokey blue mink flew from my wand and started to move about in the direction my wand was facing. I pointed my wand towards where the dragon was sitting to get his attention.

Yes! His ears pointed up as he got ready to pounce, I quickly darted my wand away and rushed out of the forest. Watching behind me to make sure Ashardalon was following, I continued to run back towards the play pens. When I was close, I placed the mink into the cage and as the dragon pounced into the cage I quickly closed and locked it. I sat there for a minute, shocked that it worked, then fell back in heap of exhaustion.
Okay so… I may not be a dragon whisperer, I guess there was a reason that book was in the attic...
