Return of the

Codenames Craze!

If you are a loyal reader of the Quibbler, then you are undoubtedly familiar with the myHogwarts tradition of a Codenames Tournament that takes place every few years. Year 68 saw the return of the beloved tournament, which involved a mix of old competitors and some new ones!

A buzz of energy permeated the castle as everyone eagerly awaited the announcement of the teams. After the teams were announced and initial matches commenced, the results of the Round Robin led to the following rankings:

  • At the top, we had Jooms, a returning team composed of the Arithmancy Professor, Jenna Rae, and Deputy Head Nooms.

  • In second place was Lyrodel, composed of Gryffindor student lyricalmyxteries and our beloved Induction Coordinator, Asphodel.

  • Next was Pelagic Maid, composed of Professors pelagia and Willow Maid.

  • In fourth place was Rowigo, composed of Hufflepuff Alumni Rowena Riddle and Ichigo Mirai.

  • In fifth was Mallorei, composed of Ravenclaw student Annabeth Granger and Astronomy Professor Reiluna.

  • In sixth place was the trio Axeyniel, made of Ravenclaw Student Axolotl, Ravenclaw Alumni Reyna Walles, and Gryffindor Alumni Arielle.

  • In seventh place was Omerght, made of Ravenclaw Alumni Omer and starlight.

  • Last but not least, in eighth place we had Raeba, made of Ravenclaw Alumni Rae and Eba.

As the Bracket Round commenced, so did the competitive spirit within the teams! As our Headmistress C expressed on Discord, “This is [the time of year] where we finally get to see that Slytherin Jenna is always claiming she truly is…”

In the first round, we saw teams Raeba, Mallorei, Pelagic Maid, and Omerght rise victorious! In the Loser’s Bracket, Jooms won against Rowigo, and Lyrodel won against Axeyniel.

After the second round of games, Mallorei and Omerght emerged as the victors in their respective matches, while Pelagic Maid and Raeba joined the Loser’s Bracket. Jooms and Lyrodel earned their second victories against Pelagic Maid and Raeba, respectively. Despite losing their first round, these two teams proved to be a force to be reckoned with!

Back in the Winner’s Bracket, Mallorei and Omerght fought in a fierce Codenames battle, with Mallorei ultimately emerging as the winner with a score of 2-1. That sent Omerght to the Loser’s Bracket to compete against either Jooms or Lyrodel!

Meanwhile, Jooms and Lyrodel battled it out, and Jooms emerged victorious, winning 2-1. That allowed them to test their rising strength against Omerght, and it seemed that the ambitious side of Jenna proved to be useful, because Jooms won 3-0!

At the time of this article, that now leaves Jooms to go up against Mallorei in the Codenames Grand Finale! Team Mallorei had no losses during the Bracket Round, but Jooms had no losses after their initial defeat!

Who do you think will win, readers of the Quibbler? The Underdog or the Champion?
