Quidditch Corner

by Koolia

With the return to Hogwarts came a dazzling Quidditch season, with many rule changes, prompting all prospective players to retake the flying quiz, and several seasoned players coming off hiatus to join in the fun! Which team prevailed in this exciting face-off? The intelligent and loyal Ravenpuffs, or the ambitious and bold Slytherdors? On mH, anything is possible - let’s see what Year 61 had in store.

MATCH 1:

The first match of the season started as Omer and Kit collided with a sickening crunch in an attempt to gain early possession. Slytherdor lost and then regained possession after a scramble for the solution of a math question, while Ravenpuff seeker Reyna Walles caught the first mid-match snitch. Slytherdor shot the quaffle which sailed through the hoops, and this plus an administrative error made the score 30-35 to Slytherdor. A couple updates later, Ravenpuff chaser Omer scored to even things out a bit. Perhaps the opposing keeper Reiluna got distracted, after she pulled out a rulebook before posting. After that, Slytherdor made two substitutions, with Dragon and Morgan playing chaser and beater respectively. Omer caught a hold of the Quaffle and attempted to score again, but this time Rei fended this off and saved. A few updates later, Omer and Dragon collided - this time, Kit caught the Quaffle and shot and scored! 125 points to both teams. Kit and Omer played hot potato with the Quaffle, working together as Kit scored again and pulled her team 5 points ahead of the opposition. Omer made one last shot (which Reiluna saved) and it seemed like this game would be a tie, with both teams neck and neck. However, Slytherdor seeker Aeri Song clinched the snitch (and the match) for a final score of Ravenpuff 170 : 215 Slytherdor.

MATCH 2:

The next match came with some lineup changes on both sides. The Ravenpuff chasers started off strong, with october now playing as chaser (good thing, or Kit would be left by herself, that too with missing brain cells!) In the middle of the match, Slytherdor made a major substitution, with mel switching from chaser to seeker, and Morgan substituting for chaser Aephelia. After a little more madness, the Slytherdor chasers dominated the next phase of the match. Dragon shot the Quaffle at the Ravenpuff hoops, but keeper Willow Maid stopped it. Ravenpuff came back and shot the Quaffle (twice, in fact, with two different chasers!) but once again, neither managed to score. All this while, neither seeker managed to get ahold of the snitch. Just when everyone was wondering when the match would end, a figure descended on the pitch, with red and green robes and a snitch in hand. Melody caught the snitch for a score of Ravenpuff 140 : 200 Slytherdor; according to a post-game interview, she didn’t use the clues; rather, she opened every single topic and searched for more than two hours! The spectacular, unexpected catch of brute force set up Slytherdor to win the Cup (a late Christmas present for them, perhaps?) but in Madam Hooch’s words, “I’ve seen pigs fly, so the other team still has a chance!”

MATCH 3:

Did Ravenpuff make the best use of that chance? There’s only one way to find out. The third match included a lineup change for Ravenpuff with Koolia playing as a beater. Omer and Morgan took turns dominating the quaffle while Reiluna kept making many spectacular saves, and the strong defense caught up to the Ravenpuffs. Once in the lead, Slytherdor caught up as pelagia caught the two mid-match snitches and the final snitch, clinching the match and the Quidditch Cup. The final score was Ravenpuff 160 : 200 Slytherdor.
