Y51: Alumni Quidditch
by Elara Lufkin
The start of the season saw the Alumni Community farewell the existing teams, and new teams were formed, drawing inspiration from the Marvel Universe and the animal kingdom, quidditch fans saw the ‘Smoking Hot Penguins’, ‘Thorestrals’ and ‘Geckos of the Galaxy’ take to the skies in Ottery End.
In all 6 matches the winner was convincingly victorious, each time at least doubling the score of their opponents. Unfortunately, The Thorestrals fell behind during the season, failing to win a match all year. This meant the final match of the season was a true nail biter which saw Smoking Hot Penguins slug it out against the Geckos of the Galaxy.

Both teams entered the game knowing they were competing for the ultimate prize. The Geckos had something extra to prove after suffering a 120 point loss earlier in the season to the penguins. This meant that not only did the Geckos have to win the game they had to beat the Penguins by a margin of greater than those 120 points to secure their first Gertie Keddle.
The match was everything fans could have hoped for from a quidditch final keeping everyone on the edge of their seats up until the final call. The Geckos managed to secure the win but alas, they couldn’t claw back enough points to overcome the solid base built by the Penguins during the season.

Year 51 saw students slugging it out in the Riddle Cup. Strong players stepped up to the plate delivering some very close matches. After the 1st round, competitors entered the bracket rounds, ranked as follows:
1. Elara Lufkin
2. Willow Maid
3. Dragon
4. Leizel
5. beauty_inthebook
In the first match of the brackets Dragon beat fellow Slytherin beauty_inthebook by checkmate. Unfortunately, Dragon missed out on getting to the final when she lost by checkmate in her next match against Elara Lufkin. As the underdog, Leizel stood strong against the higher ranked Willow Maid, with her win securing her a spot in the final. The final between Leizel and Elara Lufkin was played live, and although Leizel fought well pulling off a couple of sneaky moves and a swift attack Elara prevailed finishing the tournament undefeated.
Those who were unlucky in these first matches were able to go up against each other in a consolation bracket for 3rd. beauty_inthebook was unable to get a win and was defeated by Willow. In the next game Dragon went on to beat Willow winning the consolation bracket and 3rd place overall.

Y51: Student Quidditch
by Elara Lufkin
Not only were there new teams to be found at Ottery but the Hogwarts’ Quidditch Pitch saw some changes around its locker rooms as well. With such a small student body house teams were combined into super teams the mighty yet wise Gryffinclaw, and the sneaky but hard-working Slytherdor.
Two brand new Quidditch Captains battled it out to prove worthy of their shiny new badges, and each managed to put together formidable teams with a combination of rising-stars, and familiar faces (several very familiar faces as the occasional Head of House made an appearance on the pitch).
In the end however, Gryffinclaw outclassed their opponents in all 3 matches, wining the House Cup by a considerable 195-point margin.
