Interview with Emi

by Isabella

The start of Year 52 introduced a number of significant changes as far as our beloved mH is concerned but there is one that stands out among the rest: The introduction of a new Admin! Of course, we are talking about no other than Emilia Granger, Gryffindor graduate and Alumni extraordinaire! There is practically nothing our new Admin has not done: Department Head, Goblin, Unspeakable. Professor, Shop Owner, Career Advisor... the list is quite impressive!      Winning the title of mH Chess Champion twice and even being declared as Quidditch Player of the Year, Emilia (or Emu, a nickname stemming from a small typo brought forth by her friends' sheer excitement at their Quidditch Cup victory        ) has now joined the Admin team as the newly appointed Ravenclaw Head of House. As a resident Ravie and Emi's fellow Emisssary during the infamous gap year, I am more than excited to welcome her here for this unique interview!

Isabella (Interviewer): How did you first stumble across the site and what ultimately prompted you to join?

Emilia: I was specifically searching on Google for interactive Harry Potter sites. I had plenty of time on my hands at that time and needed something to keep me busy and take my mind off things, and I believe mH was the first or second search result. I remember going through King's Cross, doing my Flying test and waiting and checking my phone impatiently every hour at work to find out if I got it. At that time, it used to take up to a week to become Underage, so you can imagine my curiosity was on the highest peaks, haha!

Isabella: What do you remember more vividly from your years as a student?

Emilia: Everything! I remember my welcoming PM from my prefects, Kalia and Rachel Fleming, but also my first PM from a non-Gryffindor, none other than Kevin the Fish      I remember the close bond I had with my fellow Gryffs, Remus Shacklebolt, Harmony203 and Jenna Rae, as well as C. the Merman        I remember when all Gryffs swapped signatures and avatars and confused the whole board. The unreal parties we had in the CR, but also out motivation to win the Cups. At the time, Gryff was always in the last place on everything, but we kept going every single year until we initiated the #PaintItRed frenzy and managed to win both cups the same year. It was such an intense generation! We used to have Skype conference calls every couple of days, and although it started with only Gryffs, more Slyths, Huffs and Ravies started joining, and that's how Arkham General was created.

Isabella: What kind of feelings did your graduation bring and what did you aspire to do after that?

Emilia: I was extremely sad upon graduation, as I thought there's not much more after. I was scared I would severe those bonds I created with the people I was leaving behind in the castle. But it wasn't the case! I was extremely motivated by the job prospects, as I worked really hard as a student to get the grades I needed, and once I got them, that kept me going for quite a while until RL kicked in.

Isabella: What do you remember more vividly from your years as an Alumni?

Emilia: Compared to my students years, the Alumni years are a bit of blur. I remember having way too many jobs and that's all I was doing. I didn't go to WizU, I played Quidditch for the Tinworth Tigers and helped around the site wherever possible.

Isabella: How did you feel once the news of your appointment as the Ravenclaw HoH became known?

Emilia: Shocked! I remember a few minutes before the news, I was thinking of buying a shop, but ended up telling myself off because I considered I was involved in enough at that time and didn't want to be swarmed and unable to handle them all in the long run. Five minutes after, Jess messaged me to ask me if I'd like to join the Admin Team, and I froze in front of the computer, haha! I then called C. to tell her off for not telling me, haha, and I kept asking her "Are you sure?" every five minutes, haha. I put everything on paper, as I wanted to be realistic about my decision and here I am!

Isabella: How different are things around the castle compared to the time you were a student?

Emilia: I think the main difference is the activity. We used to have much more active members at that time, and the castle was always packed, and because we wanted to keep everyone busy, there was ALWAYS something going on. I remember PMs were such a big thing, and there were so many people we were interacting with, that it would take ages to reply back, only because our PMs were kilometric and we had so many to write.

Isabella: How have the year been going for you so far (some insight on your first days as an HoH)?

Emilia: It's been interesting, to say the least! There was definitely a lot of information I had to take in, and I remember reading through everything in my first couple of day and I was knackered. But even now, I go back to C. and ask her for advice and I'm still learning the admin ways, which I must say are very tangled, haha. It's unreal how much goes in the background to make mH run as smoothly as it does, and the Admins are extremely hard-working. They have my utmost respect and I'm extremely grateful and proud to be part of this team.

Isabella: Gryffindor meets Ravenclaw: Anything you would like to say to the Ravies you have under your wing?

Emila: I, firstly, wanted to thank you for the warm welcome I have received! I've felt like home from the very first day, and I'm proud to share the nest with you, and although we are few, I'm confident we are mighty! You have great potential and so much more to show, and I'll do everything in my power to help you achieve that! #SpreadYourWings
