Hogwarts House and Zodiac signs seem to be two of our favorite ways to define ourselves online. We’ve all seen the text posts where it lists the ways the four Hogwarts houses would respond to a situation. Then there are the “what soap are you according to your zodiac sign?” Some people take them both very seriously and some consider them to be completely stupid. But what if there was a correlation between the two? I was wondering about this myself so I decided to do a little bit of research using mH members that provided their birthday on their profile (necessary in order to determine their sign). I did not include hiatus or absent members in my research, but between students and alumni I was able to create a sample group of 70 mHers. Unfortunately, these did not break down evenly between the four houses. There were 22 Ravenclaws, 17 Gryffindors, 19 Hufflepuffs, and only a mere 12 Slytherins. Over the next few issues, (editor’s orders to keep me from rambling too long ;) ) I will be writing and discussing my findings so keep an eye out! In this article, I will be discussing the results for the first two signs of the zodiac: Aries and Taurus.

Aries: Let’s begin with the first sign of the zodiac, Aries, the ram. Aries are known to be active, independent, aggressive, impulsive and courageous. Aries seems like a natural Gryffindor and from a quick google search, it seems the vast majority of the internet agrees. So what about our mH Aries? Well most shockingly, out of the 70 members in my sample group, there were only two Aries: one Hufflepuff and one Gryffindor. Why are there so few Aries on mH was my first question. My theory is that due to the impulsive and energetic nature of Aries, they run the risk of becoming easily bored or just distracted by other interests in their lives causing our Aries members to be some of the most vulnerable to going orange. On a side note, I would be interested to see what houses are most prevalent among our orange members. Unfortunately, I can not conclude which house would be most common among Aries on mH due to the lack of Aries data.

Taurus: Onto the second sign of the zodiac, Taurus, the bull. Now, I will warn you all now that anything I say about Taurus has a chance of being just a little biased because I am a Taurus after all. Taurus folk are known as persevering, down-to-earth, stable, stubborn, and dependable, and they comprise 10% of my mH sample group. The stereotypical Taurus traits do seem to lend themselves well to Hufflepuff and again, my google search seems to confirm this idea, but what about mH? Shockingly enough, there was not a single Hufflepuff Taurus! 71% of Tauruses on mH are or were in Gryffindor, with the remaining portion being Slytherins. How could this be you ask? Well, when you think about the stereotypical Harry Potter book or movie Gryffindor, this statistic really is hard to wrap your head around.

Try thinking of mH Gryffindors instead and suddenly this starts to make sense. In my experience I have found mH Gryffindors to be very easy-going and down-to-earth people. While Gryffindors can be a tad lazy at times, they can truly buckle down and really get things done once they set their minds to something. But what about our Slytherin Tauruses, Kal? No, no I haven’t forgotten them. I often feel like mH Slytherins are a more ambitious version of Gryffindors on mH. :lol: I don’t know if that’s just me, but mH Slytherins and Gryffindors do seem pretty similar which might be why they get along so well on mH compared to the book!. In addition, if you consider Slytherin ambition and resourcefulness, it actually does make a lot of sense when combined with Taurus determination, perseverance, and stubbornness.
