Getting Ready for Summer Camp!

Summer Camp is getting closer and closer, I can’t wait  The Summer Camp grounds have an updated look and several positions have been changed, so you may see your favourite Lead Activity-Coordinator managing a new area! Summer Camp can get very crazy, so I have made a list of Summer Camp necessities to keep you cool, calm and collected this summer!

• Comfy Clothes – no need to pack your uniform or anything too fancy! Summer Camp is all about having fun and being comfy just adds to that experience. Though, if you do in fact plan on attending the Summer Camp Ball, I would suggest packing a set of dress robes or a nice outfit
• Water – Hydration is very important, so drink those fluids and have fun!
• Cleaning charms (or some nice smelling sprays) – There is no need to have a broom or any quidditch equipment, but it can get quite smelly and sweaty so learning a cleaning charm is definitely worthwhile.
• Goggles and swimsuit – It wouldn’t be Summer Camp without Water Polo, would it? Don’t be afraid to jump in the pool and give it a go! Some form of eye protection (goggles) can be helpful for a clearer view of those grindylows!

And last of all, don’t forget to bring a fun attitude to Summer Camp. Don’t be afraid to join in activities and games and talk with other members of the site. Summer Camp is a great way to make new friends!

Remember to study hard and I’ll see you all at Summer Camp! Ella, out.

Fun in the Courtyard

by Elliot

Are you getting bored during the end of the year's slump? Well, have no fear. Shuntbumps and Gobstones are here! Shuntbumps and Gobstones are two games that originated in Devon. They have been brought into the Courtyard of Hogwarts for students to enjoy.

In Shuntbumps, players attempt to knock as many other players off their broomsticks as possible. The winner is the last player still mounted on their broom. There are a few rules and steps to the game, so I’m not going to explain them. You can visit the topic linked by the image if you would like to learn more.

Gobstones is a popular game played with marble-like stones, called Gobstones. The game is usually played between 2 players on a surface marked with a circle. Gobstones has many variations but only two are played in the Courtyard: Snake Pit and Jack Stone. Once again, the rules are wordy so visit the topic
linked by the image to learn more and sign up.

As of August 1st, Shuntbumps had yet to begin, but there were 2 rounds of Gobstones (Jack Stone version) being played: Tsalrunes vs. LemonDrop and EllaLuna vs. Asphodel. Right now, it’s hard to tell who will win but you can watch the matches in the Courtyard.

DIMC Mystery Update

Welcome to the almost-final update on the DIMC Mystery Update. While we’ve been away, not much has happened … well, besides the fact that the final 8 contestants were whittled down to the final 2!

To do this, the DIMC event organizers pit the Final 8 against each other in a scintillating board game. Some of you may have watched the task as it unfolded, but some of you may not.  Well, to sum it up, the alumni and the students were split into two groups and tasked (hehe) with moving game pieces around a board and into a mutual final “middle” space.

Ultimately, there were slightly confusing rules dealing with time and space which anyone less intelligent than Merlin wouldn’t have understood, but it’s all good, we had the ministry officials to make sure that everything went according to the rules. Unfortunately, sometimes the rules were misunderstood by the game makers themselves which resulted in some rather fun update retractions and amendments.

*ahem* Anyways … as Naomi-Jayne and Raspyriel both neared their respective final spaces, you gotta say, it’s looking a bit like the Triwizard final task back in 1995. Two final contestants nearing the centre of their winding, confusing maze filled with quick-thinking, strategic planning, and er—well, no monsters in our version XD … but you get the idea.

And, to top it all off, turns out that there was a portkey in the middle space, too. So isn’t that a happy coincidence.
