Year 45 House Teams in Review
This issue, we are celebrating the conclusion of an eventful year of Hogwarts Quidditch.
First up, I'd like to congratulate Slytherin on their Quidditch Cup win. The final standings are as follows:
Hufflepuff: 170
Gryffindor: 190
Ravenclaw: 320
SLYTHERIN: 340
Another huge congratulations go to this year's outstanding players!
Rookie of the Year: Raegan Elizabeth
Player of the Year: Alyssa Pan
Well done also to everyone else who played this season! We had some incredible dedication and energy on the field and it was wonderful to see our smaller teams really give the usual dominators (*cough* Ravenclaw *cough*) a run for their money! Shout out to Gryffindor for holding their own, despite missing some key players.
Special Mention also goes to our Captains: Aeri Song, Liang-Wei Chou, Lilly McKinnon, and Ashftslipnot14. They are the heart of the sport here and put in so much time and effort to boost the competition whilst also ensuring that everyone has fun on the pitch.
Finally, I'd like to present to our dear readers, an overall strategy summary of our teams. This summary is based on all matches played, combined. First, some quick descriptions:
Possession Score: How much the team was in possession of the Quaffle (= team possession ÷ overall posts any team had possession)
Average Chaser response time: How long it took the team to post for the Quaffle
Freefall/Dodge/Tackle/Shoot: Team chasers' average response time for each type of question
Fastest Player: player with the quickest response time average
Most Targeted player: Team member most targeted by the bludgers
"h" = hours, "m" = minutes, "s" = seconds
Please note that the below information should not be taken too seriously as statistics, especially with small samples, tend to not be 100% accurate. Please feel free to send me an OWL if you would like any further information, though I can't guarantee that I will provide it.
Once again, congratulations to all the Hogwarts teams this year.

Hello dear readers! Now, with this article, I’d like to begin with asking you a rather peculiar, yet (probably) still relevant, question. What’s the best way to bring stress and bewilderment to students? Some of you might say detention, others may say Filch himself, but this year it has been proven that one trumps all, the student challenge! Recently, the air has been thick with mystery, tension, and drama as students (and alumni of course) took part in the delightfully named “Doom of Death Day Challenge.” This involved various tasks, each narrowing down the number of challengers until finally, the winner emerged. It all started so innocently: a party for Sir Nicholas on his 526th Death Day, but this soon took a turn for the worse when the most horrid of events took place, as you'll find out in this article.
It was a cool, crisp morning on October 29th, and at 7:45AM the flap of wings was heard resounding in the sky, from the furthest reaches of Devon to the northernmost peaks of the highlands. People looked up to see identical small, envelopes fluttering down to them. In opening them, it became apparent that there was to be a party, namely the aforementioned one for Sir Nick's Death Day, and that many were invited.
It was October 30th, and the atmosphere in the Great Hall was buzzing with energy; the excitement of the living must really be outweighing any effect that the ghosts have. Either that, or their passion for partying is somehow breaking the barrier between the living and the dead.
These vibes simply couldn't continue however… and sooner or later, a speech had to be given. :P Sir Nick hovered at the front and began his speech. Without warning, there was a mighty crash, and all went black. Once people could see again, they noticed something… Sir Nick had disappeared, along with all the other ghosts! All just gone!
It seemed the Challenge had begun ;)
The first task appeared to be simple; just round up the ghosts from where they'd been sent to, including Sir Nick. Many searched far and wide, throughout the expanses surrounding the castle to locate them, and the struggle proved to be real. The mindbending search continued until eventually, twenty succeeded in rescuing the poor soul, with Rose Jean coming out on top, closely followed by Disa and xSarahsan.
After he had somewhat recovered, Sir Nick revealed another problem, the next task. Peeves, being Peeves of course (does he really need any explanation?) had been trying to destroy his contract with the DRMC for a new job as Spirit liaison, but fortunately Sir Nick had a solution. In a conveniently close cupboard, there were potion ingredients along with a convenient set of instructions, that together would just so happen to be suitable for this specific situation. How… convenient. ;)
Rather inconveniently (ooh there’s a surprise), Peeves had discovered that Sir Nick had recruited people to help retrieve the contract, but rather than going to steal it faster, he set off to play a game of sorts with these three. As such, it seems they will need a way to hide themselves from him as they traverse the fun-house, so Sir Nick reveals the nature of these potions; they make the drinker invisible! Now that’s convenient! ;) So, the final three challengers entered, and the task was underway!
As Peeves’ madhouse carried out the mayhem for which it was designed, a conflict ensued between the house and the three students. Given the creator of each of the wild rooms, one can assume that wandering through them will be no easy task, and oh an easy task it was not. After a battle with puzzles, weapons, teamwork, and even some espionage, Peeves was finally encountered. But in his hand was a piece of paper, that looked rather peculiarly as if… no, it couldn’t be... he had the contract! Was it too late?
In a final showdown, Disa and Alyssa now needed to work together to take him on. Meanwhile, Asphodel continued to travel around the house in search of the others. A plan was hatched so that Disa would distract Peeves while Alyssa would sneak over and grab the paper out of his hand. They tried this, and Disa’s fiery taunting managed to capture his attention while Alyssa climbed the staircase towards his hand. After a couple of failed attempts, a tickling hex worked, and Alyssa grabs the contract, but it worked too well, and Peeves launches up into Alyssa’s arm and knocks the paper into the air. As it floats down towards the desk, Disa and Peeves both cannoned towards it while Alyssa cast Depulso at Peeves to try and give Disa the edge. Both hurtled into each other and Alyssa, staring rapt at the situation, managed to lose her footing and fell down the stairs. Ouch! That must have hurt. A cry is heard from the struggle as Peeves calls out for the baron, and Alyssa is drawn into the wrestling as she tries to find the contract.
After untangling themselves, Peeves lurches towards the contract and grabs it triumphantly, but then a voice resounds in the room. The Baron enters the room, and sternly orders Peeves to hand over the contract; he reluctantly does, and then proceeds to leave by floating through a wall. After Sir Nick and the Baron confer, Sir Nick thanks the two before leaving with his contract, just as Asphodel walks into the room.
Congratulations to all the participants, especially Asphodel and Alyssa Pan as third and second place respectively, but Disa most of all as champion!
A Rather Convenient Challenge
by Omer

This situation progressed until eight had found the correct ingredients and these eight, presumably now Sir Nick’s favourites, :P were tasked with writing up their method. The instruction sheet, which is now conveniently incomplete, could be used to work out the method, so this task was… guess what? Of course, to work out the method and explain why – what a surprise! The three best explanations would move the creators of these methods forward to the third challenge! This proved to be incredibly arduous, and the struggle, as they say, was real. Finally, after Sir Nick had decided, Disa, Alyssa Pan, and Asphodel progressed on to what would hopefully be the final round.
The Real Deal: Episode 2
by Daanya
Welcome back! I appear to have missed the Halloween edition of the Quibbler but oh well - I've missed too many things to bother too much. This episode I will be reviewing a Halloween movie, more specifically one of my favourites: Hocus Pocus! I'm sure many of you have seen my new avatar enough to know that I like this film very much.
Hocus Pocus is about this boy called Max Dennison, who is new to the town of Salem, and follows him, his sister Dani, and his friend, Alison as they work to defeat three witches, who have come back to Halloween for one night to steal the souls of children in an effort to keep themselves young. Trust me, the movie is much better than how I just summarised it. In my humble opinion, Hocus Pocus is the best Halloween movie out there and a classic that must be watched - I'm looking at everyone that has not watched it, go and watch it!
While I've lost count of the amount of times that I have watched it, I remember the first time vividly: I was around nine at the time and it was just a random film that was playing on television. Thankfully, it was PG rated so I could watch it. When watching Hocus Pocus, it seemed a tad bit too filled with cringeworthy dialogue but nevertheless, it hooked me in and I loved it. Despite it seeming a bit stereotypical with witches and Halloween featured in it, Hocus Pocus manages to stay original.
My favourite thing about this movie is what I like about plenty of other movies: its legendary song, which is 'I Put a Spell on You'. Not only is it classic because of the song itself but also because of how the scene in which it was performed was laid out.

Words cannot explain how iconic it was but if you watch it, you'll see what I mean. No matter how hard I try, I can never learn the lyrics to sing along whenever I hear the song but in general, I can never understand lyrics properly. Although, whenever I hear this song playing, I always find myself falling off my sofa because I like the song so much.
Anyways, back to the movie itself. If I were to rate it, I'd give it a 10 out of 10. I don't really have anything else to say apart from go and watch Hocus Pocus and I hope you all had a great Halloween because mine was slightly out of the ordinary: in other words, nothing really happened. Until next time, I leave you with a meme (a speciality of mine)!
