Gallant Gryffindors vs.

Super Slytherins

Radiant Ravenclaws vs.

Heartfelt Hufflepuffs

I must admit, it’s been a while since I’ve watched a Hogwarts Quidditch match. Back when I was young and innocent at school, I played Beater for Ravenclaw, even captained the team in my 4th year. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the team and we had a blast. So needless to say, I was highly enthused about watching the students zip around on their broom to play our beloved wizarding sport.

Gryffindor and Slytherin kicked off the first match of the Year 44 season. The conditions weren’t the best, being partially cloudy and windy, not exactly ideal for a Quidditch match. But the show must go on, of course. Madam Hooch isn’t one to call a match because of a little wind, so she released the Snitch and the Bludgers, and threw up the Quaffle. A bit of a scramble to begin as both Madelaine Weasley and Dragon went for the Quaffle and missed, but luckily artistwitch was able to grab it and officially begin the match. Bludgers were whacked every which way trying to unseat the players. Dragon was injured and made his way to the medic tent, but was replaced by Violet. Dragon would soon replace Eowyn29 as Seeker for Slytherin.

The match continued and boy was it a brutal one. Players were in and out of the medic tent it seems as there were quite a few roster changes on the Slytherin side, but hey that’s Quidditch! Meanwhile, artistwitch was able to score the first points for Gryffindor, causing the sea of scarlet-clad lions to erupt in cheers. Madelaine was able to regain the Quaffle for Gryffindor and looped around the pitch to avoid the bludger sent at her by Carmen, while Brookie attempted to unseat Junie to make it easier to score. Though Junie remained airborne, Madelaine was able to score for the lions again, putting them up 20-0. Slytherin finally gained control of the Quaffle by way of Rose Jean, who zoomed down the pitch eager to put her team on the scoreboard. Brookie tried to knock a bludger at her, but she managed to avoid it and scored for Slytherin, causing the green-clad snakes to make their voices heard in the stands.

The match was getting really interesting at this point as artistwitch snagged the Quaffle for Gryffindor, with Brookie aiming a bludger at Junie. Great strategy by the lions to unseat the Keeper early. Seems to me these young players be quite ready for Of Age Quidditch when the time comes, Gryffindor and Slytherin alike!

But I’m rambling….

Ella raced up the pitch, avoiding Morgan’s bludger. She managed to score for Gryffindor again, putting them up 30-10. By now, the Snitch has been sighted, but the Seekers seemed to be daydreaming about a celebratory ice cream themed feast for their teams and missed catching the tiny golden ball so the match continued. Gryffindor grabbed the Quaffle again as the Snitch continued to elude the Seekers. But not for long….

Finally, before Madelaine was able to score for Gryffindor again, Claudia was able to close her hands around the Snitch, winning the match for Gryffindor, 80-10! Both teams played an outstanding match and I couldn’t be more giddy both as a Quidditch correspondent and as a fan.

The second match of the year saw my alma mater Ravenclaw face off against Hufflepuff. The Mighty Eagles vs the Valiant Badgers is what I went to see and and that’s what I got.

The conditions were clear and Madam Hooch began the match by releasing the balls into the air with gusto. The Snitch flitted off into the unknown, the bludgers zoomed around plotting their violent escapades, and the Quaffle soared up into the air lifelessly as it waited for someone to catch it, the poor fellow. Omer of Ravenclaw was the first to grab it, his teammate Anneliese sending a bludger after Nev of Hufflepuff, while EllaLuna sent her bludger towards Aeri. And thus, the game began.

I sat back in my seat, scribbling notes as I watched the highly entertaining match taking place before me. Omer was able to dodge around players and bludgers alike and made it all the way towards the hoop to score. Hufflepuff seemed to have had too much sugar at breakfast that morning and forgot to send the bludger away from Nev. This resulted in Nev being hit, sending her to the medic tent, and Omer managing to score the first goal of the match. Tough break for the Badgers, but they managed to snag the Quaffle as it was reset. Asphodel zoomed forward with the red ball in her hand, both Hufflepuff beaters whacking the bludgers away from their teammates. Unfortunately, Asphodel was hit with a bludger on accident and the Quaffle was once more in free fall, until Evie of Ravenclaw scooped it up. Bobbing and weaving around avoiding bludgers, she got the shot off as Nev came back from the medical tent with a fresh determination. She tried her best, but Evie was able to score once more for Ravenclaw.

The match continued with Smart of Ravenclaw grabbing the Quaffle for his team again. Smart zipped around, hoping to put some more distance between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. But Nev had had enough. She pulled off a spectacular save as Smart tried to score again, and Asphodel managed to grab the Quaffle for Hufflepuff, who were eager to get on the scoreboard. But by now the Snitch had been sighted and so it was an air race between Disa and Aeri. As I leaned forward in my seat, gripping the edges, I saw Aeri reaching out and grabbing the Snitch just in time, picking up the win for Ravenclaw, 70-0.

Both teams put up a brilliant fight and made the match exciting. What a spectacle, Quidditch is. I hope to see some more exciting matches in the near future.

Okay, so I’m definitely an experts on jobs, right? Totally. (Fine I’m probably not at all an expert on this, but, well, here I am writing about it anyways...) Anyhow, one of my friends recently joined the site and she was having trouble with the whole getting a job process, so she asked me what to do. Well I didn’t have a great answer at the time, but maybe this will be more helpful. So here, I’ll try to help anyone newish who is wondering how on earth to get a job. I definitely don’t have all the answers, but maybe this can at least help. (If you really want better advice on this, I think it’s talked about a bit in the FAQs… don't have to trust me.  )

First of all, you should probably know what a job here on mH is? I’m guessing you do… If you don’t, well, it’s just like any job, but helping out to run an aspect of the site. Now, you should probably also known how you can get hired for one. I’m guessing most of you know this but one of the Department in the MoM is responsible for hiring everyone. On Level One, you’ll find the Department of Employment. If you’re still at Hogwarts, you probably want to mainly check out the Junior Listings. Any topic that is open means there’s a job available there. Just click on the topic, read the description and you can write an application!

Now, as you may have guessed, it’s not as easy as just putting in an application and getting hired! You’re going to be competing for that job against everyone else who decided to apply. And if you’re really not qualified for the job, well you probably won’t get hired! So, first things first, you should probably chose a job that you are qualified for. Some jobs have specific requirements, and some jobs are just better suited for older students. Luckily some are also suited to newer students! Things like being a server or helping out at a club might be a good place to start. Helping out a Summer Camp is also a great way to gain experience, as there are a lot of jobs, so you have a good chance of being hired!

Once you know what you want to apply for, you have to write an application. What to do for that? First of all, take your time. You want to sell yourself a bit, but - this should go without saying - don’t lie. If you have you have to lie to get a job, are you really well suited to get it? Put your best foot forward with your application, this can determine whether or not you get hired! Make sure to include information pertinent to the job, like why you’d be good at it or any experience you have. Put your full effort into the application, so that they will know that you’d put your full effort into doing the job.

Once you post your application, there isn’t really anything else you can do. Just don’t get dissuaded if you’re not hired right away, jobs can be competitive! Don’t be afraid to keep applying to jobs, after all, the worst that can happen is that you don’t get it.
