Gryffindor vs. Slytherin
The weather is bright on the pitch, as are the faces of students, eagerly anticipating the start of the Year 42 Quidditch season! On the Gryffindor team, we have some seasoned players, as well as a new one, while the Slytherins standing opposite of them are all familiar faces - but both teams have a new captain! LunaHP and Blossom shake hands while Hooch releases the balls. The players mount their brooms, Hooch blows her whistle, and they take off.
Las13Rosas, aka Carmen, takes the Quaffle, quickly reaches the scoring zone and shoots. Solaire, the Gryffindor Keeper, is taken out by xSarahsan's Bludger, and the Quaffle sails straight through unguarded hoops, scoring the first points of the season! Carmen grabs the Quaffle and once again makes it to the scoring zone without a problem. She shoots, but this time, Solaire is uninjured and prepared - she barely prevents Slytherin from earning ten more points.
Predictably, Carmen is the first to pounce on the Quaffle after it's been reset, but she's hit by a Bludger after dodging the Gryffindor Chasers. Lion Liang-Wei Chou catches the Quaffle and shoots, but jrrossi makes a save. Carmen snatches the Quaffle yet again, while the Seekers spot a blur of gold. Blossom and Crystalink dash off after it, and the one who returns with the Snitch in hand is...
...Blossom! Slytherin wins!
Gryffindor - 0
Slytherin - 60
Hufflepuff vs. Ravenclaw
Polished broomsticks glint in the sunlight, spectators crowd in the cheering stand, and grips tighten on brooms as Madam Hooch kicks open the Quidditch chest. On Hufflepuff, we have a new Chaser, while Ravenclaw is all old or returned faces (although not as old as a certain CoMC Professor). Hooch releases the balls, and the players fly to the skies.
Lilly Mckinnon grabs the Quaffle right from under Starlight's hands. Evie Riddle flies in from the spectator crowd and attempts to tackle Lilly, but quickly realizes that she's not playing. Bazile, aka Lizzie, tackles the Quaffle from Lilly instead. Lizzie shoots the Quaffle, and Grace, the Hufflepuff Keeper, is taken out by a Quaffle from Reem as the Quaffle sails through the hoops. Ravenclaw scores!
Asphodel pounces on the reset Quaffle, but is taken out by a Bludger right as Starlight, aka Kyla, tackles her. Kyla takes the Quaffle and shoots. Grace has been hit yet again, so Ravenclaw scores with ease. Kyla and Asphodel fight over the Quaffle once again, and the end result is Kyla taking the Quaffle from Asphodel. However, Kyla isn't able to keep the Quaffle for very long, as Asphodel successfully tackles her and shoots the Quaffle. Despite Chloe's efforts to save the Quaffle, Asphodel scores. She is able to snatch up the Quaffle again, and wait, is that the Snitch?
awesome_forever and NevFawkks dash off, and just as Vinny Delacour tackles the Quaffle from Asphodel, awesome_forever flies back to the centre of the pitch, snitch in hand. Ravenclaw wins!

3.Why do you like teaching children about Quidditch?
I think the sport of Quidditch is just so much fun and at the same time, a game that requires attention, discipline, and enthusiasm. It helps them to focus their energy in a productive way. They can channel their energy and competitiveness into something that is fun and allows them some freedom to have interactions with their house members and allow them to earn points for their house.
4.What has been the funniest moment in your career of Quidditch refereeing?
Hmmm, I would have to say a few years ago, someone thought it would be fun to bring Nifflers on the pitch and allow them to enjoy the match from brooms. I was not too happy, but it was kind of funny to see them flying about. Not something to repeat readers! I have also had bludgers sent my way - guess the student didn’t like my refereeing!
After a long match, Madam Hooch enjoys a good, strong cup of tea. One day, she hopes to ref the alumni with their fun brooms and different rules. She also exclaims that her favourite time of the year is Christmas, as she loves seeing the pretty snow come down.
I would like to thank Madam Hooch for allowing me to interview her.
Madam Hooch
by EllaLuna Malfoy
I had the pleasure of interviewing Madam Hooch, the Hogwarts Quidditch Referee. She has given us so much of her time, refereeing matches and lots more, but how much do you really know about this wonderful woman?
So let’s take some time to find out more about her.
1.What is your favourite part of Quidditch?
That can be a hard one to answer. I really love the game and enjoy seeing the students all excited when the match begins, as well as the end when a seeker comes flying back with the snitch in their hand and the team celebrating. Watching the beaters try to unseat players from the other team, or the keeper trying to anticipate which hoop to block just adds to the excitement.
2.Why did you choose to referee games rather than play them?

I did play years ago, but after a time, I felt I would be better helping students to learn the fine art of how to play the game, gain skills at the positions they choose, and watch some of them go on to play for professional teams when they have finished their school years.
