If you’re a beginner at duelling, you may think the sport is all about luck. But even when the die may not be on your side there are still many different techniques you can use to increase your chances of winning. I’ve enlisted the help of Elise_Malfoy and xSarahsan, both great duellers in the Slytherin Dungeon, to assist me with the following list I’m bringing to you wonderful readers! Let’s begin!

1. Invest in the Custom Spells Encyclopaedia
This encyclopaedia is extremely helpful in duelling as it has new and exciting spells created by mH users to make your duel a bit more interesting. This book contains 50+ spells that can be used on top of the Harry Potter World’s original spells, with over 80+ spells the possibilities are endless. This is a book that duellers who want to get to the top should definitely invest in.

2. Distracting your opponent
Duelling isn’t always about throwing spells back and forth at each other. There are many ways you can distract your opponent to get you some extra casts.

“Spells such as Excito Timor - (Target will visualise their worst fear) or Labrusca Necto - (Vines will restrict the target),” says
xSarahsan. “Otherwise the good old Stupefy or Expelliarmus should do the trick.”

These are some excellent examples of how you can side-track your contender and attack them while they are busy dealing with the spells effects.

3. Frequently check your duelsThis is something that you should always do as a dueller as it can give you opportunities to attack your opponent or reduce the risk of losing house points.“It's definitely important! You only have a 24-hour time limit, so always checking to see if it's your turn is imperative to ensuring you don't miss your turn/lost points,” Elise_Malfoy explains. “It's also good to check to see what your opponent is doing and see how the duel is going along.”

Knowing what your opponent is doing and what their next move may be can give you an advantage as you may be able to avoid their next spell. This ties to the next point I will be talking about.

4. Pay attention to your opponent’s moves
A lot of people allow the die to decide their fate but this doesn’t always have to be the case. Watching what your opponents move is an important part of duelling as it can help you get an idea on what their next cast will be.

“It’s important to keep an eye on what spells and tactics your opponent may be using as one failed spell could be powerful to a different spell on the next hit,” says
xSarahsan. “For example a spell such as Aqua Scindo (Water Whip) can fail ultimately leaving the target drenched although unharmed. If you're able to get another cast either right away or as soon as they cast (so long as they're still wet) one may cast Apello Fulgar and the effects of the lightning bolt can be increased since water is a good conductor.”

This is a great example of what skilled duellers like to do to damage their opponent easily. You can pick up these tactics to either perform them or even avoid them in a duel.

5. Understand all the rules
As you may know, before you start duelling in the Slytherin Dungeon you must post that you understand the rules. Although not a lot of people think about it much, it is always important to have a thorough understanding of what each rule means, otherwise it could cost you house points or a loss.

“One of the most important rules is the time limits - posting within 24 hours so you don't lose points!”
Elise_Malfoy exclaims. “It's also important to take note of the banned spells (the Unforgivables, some from the Custom Spells Encyclopaedia, etc.), and understanding the ranks and what you're allowed to do (for example, you can only use a shield if you're rank 2 or higher, extras can only be used by rank 3 and higher, etc.)”

These are some of the rules that you must know or at least should have an understanding of. It will assist you in your duels as you are able to be more careful when posting complicated spells such as shields etc.

Well that’s it for now! I hope you enjoyed this list and learned something from it. I can’t wait to see more people in the duelling chamber giving this wonderful sport a go!

Scarlet, signing off!

The House Cup - well sought after year after year, is a staple at Hogwarts. The four houses give their all to be the ones to attain the golden trophy and decorate the Great Hall in their colors during the annual End-of-Year feast. For a memorable 10 years, Ravenclaw has worked hard to ensure that the Great Hall continued to be branded in blue and bronze, and the other houses have finally had enough. The students in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin are all working harder than ever, handing in their homework days before the deadline, participating in trivia and chess, and even keeping the ruckus to a minimum! It appears that the typically chaos-seeking students have taken a step back …

The battle for the House Cup is closer than it has been in years, with the results being as follows thus far in Exam Week:

We wish all the houses the best of luck!

It appears that present-day muggle music is popular amongst the readers! Do the Weird Sisters have some competition? ;)

Of the choices provided, the crowd's favorite modern day artist appears to be Ariana Grande. Apparently she released favorites such as "No Tears Left to Cry," "Thank U, Next," and "7 Rings."

None of these songs beat "Do the Hippogriff," "Magic Works," or "This Is the Night" though, I'm sure!
