Change Strikes Discord
by Bazile
As I think we all know, mH has been undergoing some pretty big changes. And while the biggest change, our departure from Zetaboards, seems unfortunate, I think it’s safe to say that we’re also making lots of positive progress. I’m referring to one thing in particular, which is - in case you haven’t already guessed it - the new mH Discord server.
By now, most people have probably seen the update on the Notice Board or heard about it from other members. As I’m writing this there are over fifty people who have joined the server. But for those of you who haven’t joined (or have and still have no idea what’s going on) Discord is a type of communication service where you can send instant messages as well as make video and non-video calls. For our mH community we have - thanks to the hard work of those who organised it - a series of group message channels for members to chat together. There’s a channel that includes all of the members but there are also more specialized topics such as a variety of private topics created for different groups. I, as a Ravenclaw, can only see the Ravenclaw specific channels but I’m told that each house has their own unique channels (created by their HoH) and that the Of-Age have a spot to chat as well. These topics are another opportunity for us to get to know the other members of our community and the format of Discord really facilitates this.
Though this is the first mH wide Discord server, many members of mH have been on Discord servers together before this. Discord servers have been used for Real-Time Quidditch and Real-Time Duels for a little while now, to great success. The server I am most familiar with, however, is The mH Ravie Server, created by TheSmartpool. It was a great atmosphere and a really fun place to chat and hang out. (So I think everyone who was on it can agree that we own Smart a huge thanks for all the hard work he puts into it.) I believe a friend also told me the Gryffindors had a server, and I think there’s been a Slytherin one, but I have never witnessed either of these. Since the new mH server has been created, it’s been asked that all conversations from other server be moved to it. I personally know that a lot of us are sad to leave the other servers as we have lots of memories there - as well as cool other features, such as the music bot on the Ravie Server (once again, we owe Smart’s hard work for this!). However, having the whole of mH together on one server is really special and it means we can connect with even more people.
As for those who don’t want to or for some reason can’t join the Discord server, you aren’t missing anything essential and can still participate to the fullest on mH. The main site is still mH (even if we are moving soon) and all vital updates will still be made there. And if this is the first time any of you are hearing about the new mH Discord server then I strongly recommend you check out the Notice Board and join it! It’s a lot of fun and a great way to add to the social side of mH, which is amazing because all the awesome people are one of the things that make mH so special. Just today, I got to talk with people I normally wouldn’t talk with and I look forward s to seeeing everyone on the on the new server!

As We Transition...

myHogwarts has a tremendous history, dating years back. It has overcome innumerable challenges, but this is the first move of boards on such a grand level, and time will tell how the unfortunate but necessary move is taken. Year 44, the final year on the old site, has proved its worth, to say the least, with the numerous feats and victories - some as a family and some solo, with motivational inputs from friends. We hope that mHers continue forth with their endeavors, accomplishing their goals and enjoying their experience on the new site.
Just as well, changes are aplenty, if we reflect back to summer. After all, it is not a small deal for a change in admin. Memrah, famously known by the mysterious letter “C” around the site, is now Gryffindor Head of House, picking up after willowymst. Willowmyst has resigned from her position due to time commitments around the site and in life - we are lucky that she is going to continue being an important part of the site via Career Counseling and so forth.
Everyone knows that Willowmyst’s real name, or name that she is known by around the site, is Christine. Memrah is so often called “C” that younger students or even older members of the site don’t know her real name/have forgotten it! Her authentic name is indeed Christiana… so we are looking at a reign of those with VERY similar names. Prior to Christine stood Cass Emeraude, under the name Cass. From all this, we can conclude that Gryffindor has a soft spot for those whose names begin with “C,” right? What can this say about the future and who the future Gryffindor Head of House may be? ;) Shall we all change our names to begin with "C," to improve our chances? :P
In addition to this change, June Lovegood, who has been teaching Magical Healing OWL and NEWT from shortly after her graduation as a Ravenclaw, is stepping down from that role. JakeHP7 will once more take over those two levels.
The Peverell Cup is a prime example of a depiction of all the houses excelling in their extra-curricular activities! Dueling was and continues to be a popular sport amongst plenty, and the Peverell Cup no less. There were numerous participants, absolutely more than needed for the cup, and the four houses and members within battled until the very end. They overcame many injuries and members, eventually leaving us with our final four. In fourth place came artistwitch (Ella), representing Gryffindor! Next was Ashftslipknot14, representing the sanguine snakes. The runner-up of the battle was a Ravenclaw, Rainfall. And the winner, a loyal Hufflepuff, is none other than Disa! Congrats to these four individuals and all the other participants for being brave and enduring the injuries. :)
myClubs, which has undergone a recent modification, in order to attract more members, also held its very own myClubs Talent Show! It was encouraged that mHers all around express and show off their talents to a community that doesn’t judge and only appreciates the sheer beauty. There were many participants, all eager to record themselves doing what they particularly have a strong passion for! It was enjoyable, at the very least, to see talents that we didn’t even know some mHers had; this also further accentuated that the community is made up of marvelous talent and will. The voting was thoroughly composed of members of myHogwarts, and the medalist appears to be Rowena Riddle! We hope that mHers continue to showcase their talents, without feeling timid or nervous, as they are all able to put their own twist to it and make it jaw-dropping.
The Riddle Cup is an annual chess tournament that takes place, other than for the years that the AG Cup is held. Every year, the old champions battle it out in aims to keep their title, while others secretly plot and train to take down those very champions. This year, Dragon, proudly representing Slytherin, stole third place. Meanwhile, Ravenclaws TheSmartpool and Omer play back and forth, both with the same goal - having the first place trophy under their name. Finally, the winner is determined, and underdog Omer, a mere first year, steals the spotlight.
Quidditch has had an eventful year, what with the recent addition of RTQ (Real-Time Quidditch) to Summer Quidditch. Needless to say, the accomplishments of BrookieMalfoy as Rookie of the Year and Aeri Song as Player of the Year are to not go without notice. Brookie has won the award while being a sole first year, whereas Aeri has received her award while this being the first year she has played Seeker for her house.
A warm congrats to those who were able to make it onto our first ever Quidditch Awards, run by Head Students and Quidditch Captains. Another chapter of our life on myHogwarts has come to an end, and it is up to us to open the next chapter with contagious smiles and positive attitudes. Cheers!
So You Want To Become A Magizoologist?
by Rae

Welcome back to the second installment of Magizoology! As I mentioned last time, this issue’s installment will be focusing on what it takes to become a magizoologist.
As with most Of-Age careers, this position does require students to achieve passing grades at OWL and NEWT level. Even a TOAD! But don’t let that scare you off.
The full requirements, as per the Department of Employment, are:
“NEWTs: CoMC (O), Herbology (A)
OWLs: DADA (E), Magical Healing (E), Magical Law (A) OR Charms (A)
A TOAD in Wandlore would also be preferred but is not required.”
At a minimum, this career requires students to be OWL ready in 5 classes but you only have to take 2 at NEWT level. Of course, taking all the required classes and achieving scores above the minimum required will greatly help your application. As will pursuing further education at WizU once eligible.
I, myself, had not taken Magical Law or Wandlore when I applied for the position but they are credentials I am working on.
If you are interested in this career but don’t quite meet some requirements, fret not as the Department of Employment does allow some leniency. Details can be found at the Employment Office under “Information for Employers.”
Besides grades, being a magizoologist also requires a good amount of both record keeping and creativity.
Student positions that I think may help you in this career are: Summer Camp Counsellor/Organizer, Hospital Wing Intern, Level 4 Ministry Intern, and Shop Assistant. I think these jobs/experiences would be helpful as they give you skills in event planning and management, record keeping, processing orders, role-playing interactive experiences, and working with a variety of people - both Of-Ages and students.
Of course, any way you can demonstrate you meet the requirements will be considered. If anyone has any questions about the requirements to become Magizoologist, please feel free to reach out to me. I also encourage students to talk with their Career Advisor if interested in this position, or any others, as they can help you map out a plan to achieve success.
Until next time, I hope everyone is having a safe and happy summer!
