A MACUSA Conference or a Magical Creatures Experiment?

At the beginning of Week 6, we received news that our very own Hufflepuff Head of House, Naomi-Jayne had been called to represent Hogwarts at the yearly MACUSA conference in Boston, Massachusetts. Naomi was kind enough to share some information about how she spent her first two days at the conference. Some of her conference activities seemed fairly routine. These included a tour of the Wizarding history of Boston, a “death match” where participants learned about safe duelling, and a lecture on how to make believable and engaging lessons for your students.

However, some of the events held at the conference created an opportunity for questions about the magical creatures in America. Naomi stated that she got the opportunity to drive a duck, before correcting herself and saying that it was a panel on the magical qualities of the ordinary duck along with a debate on the true function of the rubber duck. If this was not concerning enough, apparently in America there is a new magical creature known as a Bluffikin. Bluffikins are marshmallow-like rabbits that will fly to your mouth and force their victim to say chubby bunny until no more bluffikins will fit.

It appears that MACUSA may be creating experimental magical creatures. These bluffikins have never been seen before and are exclusively found in America. They have also apparently become enough of an issue that the president of MACUSA saw fit to warn representatives from around the world of the dangers of the bluffikins! If this was not enough evidence, one cannot ride or drive your ordinary Muggle duck, so it is highly likely that MACUSA is working on making a magical duck that they decided to test at this conference. These magical ducks could be used for transportation, recreation, or even a version of Quidditch on ducks.

But if these are the creatures that MACUSA decided to share with the rest of the world, what else could they be working on that they are not sharing? Could we expect to see magical raccoons that can juggle? The return of dinosaurs that take over the world? And the most important question, is Naomi involved in this?

Pumpkin Pasties Recipe

Today I have got my hands on a favourite Hogwarts Express snack that you can now make at home whenever you are missing these pumpkin flavoured treats. I have consulted various house elves, the elusive witch who mans the trolley and even Mrs Weasley herself and believe I have come up with the pastie recipe that combines everyones favourite things about the treats (they also happen to be Wrackspurt repellants, but you didn’t hear that from me).

I got between a minor argument between two house elves who each believed strongly that their version of the pasties was the best. Tink was adamant on a savoury version and Mitzy held the belief that her sweet version was a student favourite. As they were both so passionate… and also because I keep hearing small footsteps near my dorm at night and seeing shadows following me round the castle, I have chosen to include both versions today.

Differences to note: The savoury option will require the use of a stove to prepare your filling whereas the sweet pasties just need a bowl and some magic! ;)

These treats are equally flavourful and absolutely hit the spot! Please be sure to avoid first years throwing around hardening charms as this may ruin the experience!

Note: I state that a handful of cheese is needed in the savoury recipe but given the recent cheesegate at the castle perhaps add all you can manage…

You can, of course, use any charms of your choice to help with the preparation but be sure to focus, I have ended up with a rather messy kitchen when my thoughts have strayed.

Tip: I have heard whispers of treats going missing from students and alumni alike, I have consulted with fellow staff and we suspect Nargles are behind it. I have been wearing my Butterbeer cork necklace all week.

Wishing magic cooking to you all!
