The moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived. After a great competition in which numerous individuals entered, a winner has been selected in the Sorting Hat Apprentice Competition. From divination professors to students, this competition garnered much interest as members tried to guess the house into which our newest mH members would be sorted.
The winner, guessed only 6 correct out of 19 for a 32% average. It seems the Sorting Hat will not be replaced anytime soon. Without any further ado, we would like to congratulate….

Not-So-Magical Cooking: Kimchi Fried Rice
with Aeri Song
Hello everyone and welcome to recipes that I have made without magic! There will be different recipes every issue and all from a different country. If a recipe isn’t healthy, I will include healthier substitutes within it! If any of my readers have an allergy but would love to try a recipe I wrote about, you’re more than welcome to send me a message on mH and I'll gladly help you out! Anyways, on to one of my favorite recipes, Kimchi Fried Rice, a common dish made in South Korea.
Yield: Serves 4 (Serves 2 if recipe is halved)
Time: 30-40 Minutes
Ingredients
4 cups cooked, cooled, white rice
1 cup diced, white onion
3 tablespoons Olive Oil (Grapeseed Oil or Vegetable Oil is also good)
2 cups of chopped Kimchi
1 can of diced, Spam (Cooked ham or bacon is also good)
1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
1 cup Crumbled roasted seaweed
3 tablespoons Sesame Seeds
* 4 eggs
* Salt
* Pepper
Preparation
Step 1: In a non-stick pan, add one tablespoon of olive oil (or whichever oil you chose) and the onions at a medium-low heat. Next, cook and stir the onions for about two minutes. Thirdly, add the kimchi and another tablespoon of oil. Then, cook and stir for five minutes. After that, add the spam (or other cooked meat) then cook and stir for another five minutes.
Step 2: First, add the rice along with the rest of the olive oil and stir until incorporated. Stir and cook for five minutes. Next, stir in the soy sauce and the sesame oil. Then, turn down the heat to low then stir in the crumble roasted seaweed and the sesame seeds. Finally, leave the rice to cook until slightly brown.
*Step 3 (Optional): In a non-stick pan, cook eggs sunny-side up then season with salt and pepper. Then fry the eggs to however you like them made. Once you are done, serve the eggs over the fried rice and you have Kimchi Fried Rice!
